Mainland China Affairs Section-Brief History

The current Mainland China Affairs Section of International Education and Exchange Division was originally founded as the Mainland China Research Center in 1992 under the direction of then Ming Chuan University (MCU) President Dr. Chuan Lee. From 1996 to 1997, Mainland China Research Center was reorganized by Dr. Shen, Pei-Di and renamed as Mainland China Research Division. It continued under the leadership of Dr. Fan, Chung-Yuan (1998-1999), Dr. Liao, Tsang-Sung (2000), and Dr. Wang, Chen-Nan (2001-2010), until the phased development of MCU resulted in its transformation into the Mainland China Affairs Section under the International Education and Exchange Division in 2010. Mainland China Affairs Section focused on MCU internationalization, and was in charge of organizing and promoting academic exchanges between MCU and sister universities in China. In addition to enhancing MCU's international competitiveness, Mainland China Affairs Section provided diversified educational resources and educational experiences to all faculty and students. In September 2011, in step with the central government's higher education policy to begin accepting Mainland students in Taiwan, MCU established the Mainland China Education and Exchange Division. Since 2020, due to the epidemic, cross-strait exchanges have been hampered, so the unit was reorganized under the International Education and Exchange Division as the Mainland China Affairs Section. The current director of International Education and Exchange Division is Dr. Liu, Nathan K.H, who follows Dr. Yang, Kai-Huang (2011.9-2012), and Dr. Chen, Yao-Chu (2012-2014.7), and Dr. Liu, Nathan K.H. (2014-2017.05), and  Dr. Chan, Shih-Chien (2017-2019.08) , and Mr. Hsiao, Yao-Wen (2019-2021.07) in this role.

The goal of Mainland China Affairs Section of International Education and Exchange Division is to assist MCU to develop multifaceted connections in Mainland China, especially connections with Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council and Mainland China’s educational system. Meanwhile, Mainland China Affairs Section of International Education and Exchange Division also accepts commissions from the Mainland Affairs Council and Ministry of Education in Taiwan to arrange academic seminars which are related to cross-strait issues.
